Solution to The Red Mustang
1) 1:27
The largest minute portion is 72, the second largest is 71, and the third largest is 27. The remaining number is 1, so the time is 1:27.
2) 1:25
53 x 5 = 265 so it has been 265 minutes since 9 am. 265/60 = 4.42 hours. That means the time is somewhere between 1 and 2 pm since that is 4-5 hours after 9 am. The remainder of 265 when divided by 60 is 25 because 265 - (4x60) = 25. The time is 1:25.
The minute portion could also be found by multiply 0.42 by 60, rounding to 25.
3) 10.4
BP and PC both equal 6 since they are half of 12. Since AP makes a right angle with BC, because a triangle’s height always makes a right angle with a triangle’s base. This makes APC a right triangle. AC is 12 and PC is 6 so you can use the Pythagorean theorem to solve for the third side
144 - 36 = AP^2
144 - 36 = 108
The square root of 108 is 10.4
4) KM
The only numbers that have a remainder of 2 when divided by 3 and a remainder of 1 when divided by 5 are 11 and 26. The letter is not Z so it must be K.
The first six primes are: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13. The 6th one is 13 so the 2nd letter is M.
5) Tim and Katie
It's not Lacey and Kayla because they were far away right before the crime happened. If the necklace is the initials of somebody then it must be Tim and Katie. Katie is the only person whose name starts with K other than Kayla who is innocent. The hint says the last name of Katie is Morrison so it makes sense that KM is her initials. That means Tim and Katie stole the Mustang.
