Meet the Team

Founder and president

Aaron Kahn is a senior at Biotechnology High School in New Jersey where he enjoys learning about science and math, which is why he applied and was accepted into the Columbia University Science Honor Program where he learns about more advanced STEM topics such as knot theory and general relativity. He has used this knowledge to compete in STEM competitions such as the National Science Bee and American Mathematics Competition. Through the math competitions he participated in, he realized how these were very different from the math typically taught in school so created Solve a Math Crime in order to introduce these problems and the critical thinking skills gained from them to a wider range of students in an enjoyable way.

Vikram Parasuram is a senior at Biotechnology High School in New Jersey who loves the adventure of exploring math problems. Academically, he loves challenging math problems and collaborative STEM projects as he has competed in competitions such as the American Mathematics Competition. He has especially grown to appreciate the mathematical logic in the computing fields and hopes to utilize his problem-solving skills to immerse himself in the collaborative world of technology. Through Solve A Math Crime, he hopes to expose middle school students to the true adventures that mathematics can entail and develop their problem-solving skills from a perspective they have never experienced.

Director of Outreach

Roger E. Malaver is a rising senior at University High School in Puerto Rico and a Congress of Future Medical Leaders alumni. He is very enthusiastic about Math and Science. In his school he’s part of the Math Club, tutor’s students and participates in Math competitions. He’s also an artist and a musician who engages in the advanced musical group in his school participating in multiple activities nationally and has created logos for the security school council and different clubs he’s in. He enjoys the challenge of complex mathematical problems in which critical thinking and reasoning play a major role. He’s very thrilled by the idea of making mathematics more fun to students from young ages by working for Solve a Math Crime.

Elizabeth Lee is a national award-winning ice-dancer and student-athlete from Colorado Springs, CO. When not on the ice working on her competitive solo ice dance programs, she engages in mathematics research and problem-solving as she loves all things math! Elizabeth is also an award-winning fine artist and student of classics, having won Scholastic gold and silver keys for portraiture and gold and silver medals for the National Latin Exam. Between tutoring math at her school for the National Honor Society and working for Solve a Math Crime, Elizabeth hopes to bring a similar joy for math to younger students across the nation.

David Koshy is a junior at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Florida where he enjoys learning more about math and science, as well as being a noted multi-sport athlete in both soccer and track & field. After struggling in mathematics in both elementary school and middle school, he developed a passion for mathematics and science in his freshman year of high school where he learned of their interesting and complex applications in the real world. After gaining a new perspective of solving math problems and the importance of creativity in doing so, he hopes to inspire students from around the world to see that mathematics is much more than memorization and lectures, rather a field of interesting ideas that have intuitive foundations behind them and unique applications.

Harshita Juthani is a rising junior in Edison, New Jersey. She has always had a passion for math and loves what the Solve a Math Crime team aims to do. Given the title of "Gifted and Talented" since 2nd grade, she found many new avenues of math to explore and further develop this passion. Whether it was Egyptian hieroglyphics or more recently Pre-Calculus, she loved the challenge; as a result, she was recommended by my teacher and will be taking AP Calc BC next year. Personally, as a nerdy middle schooler, she was really interested in interactive challenges, like the St. Jude Math-a-Thon. To her peers, taking the highest level math courses available was nothing more than a personal requirement; but for her, she always had fun and enjoyed these classes as she built great teacher relationships. Math just made sense to her. She would genuinely love nothing more than to spread that joy to many other middle schoolers.

Varun Donde is a 17 year old rising Senior who currently resides in Singapore, but has previously lived in Hong Kong and New Jersey. Varun is an avid STEM student and has taken multiple AP's in the discipline, including AP Physics, Chemistry and Statistics. In Hong Kong, Varun was part of an organisation called Suits for Success with the aim of providing university students with formal attire to attend job interviews. In his free time Varun enjoys coding with Python, and is on his way to earn a certification in Google Cloud Specialization. Varun enjoys Soccer, Chess and Cricket outside of school, and has played competitively from a young age. Now he is part of a mens team in Cricket, and is a member of the school soccer and chess teams. He is excited to be working with Solve a Match Crime and hopes to create challenging and exciting problems.
